Nana & Papa Say Goodbye to the USA...Hello To Mexico.

Famous Route #66 now know as Route #95
was such a scenic and fun route...if not a little hair raising.
The warning signs would say "DIPS" for the next 15
miles....these dips were liken being at sea with waves rolling in.
Then to make it interesting, would be the blind hills and blind
sharp turns.  I think we rode it all out so very well
because ever time we looked at the outside temp,
it was going...14....16...19....20...the
land scape was growing greener, and in the end
of all this excessive JOY, we bursted into the
perfect song.....(we have it on video for your
listening pleasure....which is only 3 minutes long,
but taking hours and hours to upload...so it will be to follow)
and we sang it with great gusto as we dipped along!

OLD ROUTE 66
saw us off this morning

I could not help but take this photo of this giant
rooster...all I could think of was good old "Truckhead"
our first farm rooster of last year...and then I thought of
Silas...(who called him Chickenhead)...and
of how Truck-head bit him...and was then
made into STEW!  ...Hey Silas, do you
like this picture...Yes or No???

We went off trail for a small drive so Papa could
see the Colerado River.....This river is drying up
because such mass volumes are being drained
to water the dessert fields...That is history in the
making.....Here we are, marking the making of it all!

These are the canals that flood the 1000s of fields

Making the alfalfa to feed the thousands of dairy cattle that we saw later....

Have no idea what these birds were....but they would
flock to the flooded field ...and eat grub...Yummy

Photo to show the "Dips" of our long days drive.

We drove a mile or so, trying to figure out what
in the world this pile (mountain) of dirt was about?
The part tens on the side hill was man made and sooo
strange looking...finally just as we gave up, Papa's
eyes saw a sign that told us what it was.......

This was in the middle of no where...and look
at that protective fence...there were no building
so it was not a prison...???????

A GOLD MIND

After we passed the Gold Mind, the landscape took a complete
change....this happened so much, sudden landscape change!
What unfolded before me looked like the kind of desserts that I
have seen on TV where the man is dehydrated, and dying
looking for water.  You know the rolling hills of sand.
Here they were...what a amazing site.
In photo two there are two people inn the distances on top
of one of those huge dunes...Gives you an idea of
the size of them.

We drove by thousands of diary cattle, named into
a these space age looking corrals....  too many
cattle...it was soooo over crowded...Yuck!

Thus the river water to grow the food to feed the
cows to feed the humans...or something like that?

Leaving the USA....The boarder crossing into Mexico
We were pulled over and asked to go buy a permit
to stay for 3 to 6 months...We did not understand
the need of this...but pay we did...and we will only
stay our planned 30 days....OH WELL???

As soon as we crossed the boarded and stopped at our first stop light
we had mexican company.  Who wants lemons while they are
driving in a car on vacation?  Papa looks so pleasantly amused!

I look to my left, and there walking into town were these two women,
dressed so colourful and looking so beautiful.

Just thought this light was so dinky looking

Our GPS would not work in mexico, and we
really fell in love with using it....so now we are
forced to go back to "old way"...following the
signs and reading maps!  Ug...ug...ug

Here we are...our discounted apartment was waiting
(JUST KIDDING)

I love the sign that says..."Last U Turn to the USA
if you go beyond that...you are Doomed for Mexico!  LOL
